The[ National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)](https://www.upguard.com/blog/cybersecurity-regulations-financial-industry) is the United State's equivalent of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Originally, NIST 800-53 only applied to Government entities, but the latest revision of NIST 800-53 (revision 5) extends the framework to non-U.S Government.
