"I love the fact that at UpGuard it all comes down to the effort you put in on a daily basis thus opening plenty of doors for growth and accomplishment"
- Payton Vallee
In what ways do we embrace equity at UpGuard?
At UpGuard, I am given the same opportunities as everyone regardless of status. I have been fortunate enough with the amount of opportunities that UpGuard has provided based on merit, work ethic, and drive. I love the fact that at UpGuard it all comes down to the effort you put in on a daily basis thus opening plenty of doors for growth and accomplishment.
What piece of advice could you give to help women navigate in this or other high-tech industries?
My piece of advice to help women navigate their career in the tech industry is to always be confident within your abilities and self-worth. Never be afraid of speaking your truth and to remember how far you have come no matter what obstacles you may face.
My biggest piece of advice would be GO FOR IT, take on that new project your supervisor wants you to work on, go for an interview for a promotion you might not feel ready for, and for speaking up in meetings to come up with new ideas. You might be surprised that the jump you are about to make could be your way of getting one step closer to your goals.
Was there someone - of any gender, colleague, or mentor - who was an example or direct influence that inspired you in your career? How?
My biggest mentor would be Josett Valdez who is now the CEO at South Florida Red Cross. She helped develop my leadership skills, problem solving tactics, and what it means to have a “can do” attitude. She has taught me that even though things might get tough or don’t go your way, always keep your head up and if all else fails, have confidence in yourself that you are here for a reason. If it wasn’t for her mentorship during my college volunteer experience, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
