Gap: Stolen laptop has data of job applicants
Gap Inc. announced Friday that a laptop containing the personal information of about 800,000 job applicants was stolen from the offices of one of its vendors that manages data for the company. The San Francisco-based retailer said it has begun notifying on Thursday those applicants whose Social Security numbers were included in the information on the laptop.

Instead of the tie and pocket square they’d ordered, the parcel was stuffed full of confidential employee documents: Social Security numbers, tax forms, resignation letters, legal notices, doctors' notes and performance reviews.
