Effective January 2, 2018, the organization changed its name to Encompass Health Corporation and its New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) ticker symbol from HLS to EHC.HealthSouth was involved in a corporate accounting scandal in which its founder, chairman, and chief executive officer, Richard M. Scrushy, was accused of directing company employees to falsely report grossly exaggerated company earnings in order to meet stockholder expectations.
