In what ways do we embrace equity at UpGuard?
One of the first things I noticed at UpGuard is that the company promotes women to leadership roles. It was one of the things that drew me to the company initially, as it is a personal source of inspiration to see women around me being decision makers and leading teams to success and growth. There is also a supportive and inclusive work culture, where anyone on any team, regardless of gender or tenure, has the ability to speak on an initiative or an idea. You can ensure that your word will be heard and taken seriously.
What piece of advice could you give to help women navigate in this or other high-tech industries?
I would encourage women to speak up and advocate for themselves when they feel the need and desire to. Our voices, ideas, and opinions need to be heard in all settings, and we cannot allow ourselves to be silent. I’ve also always found it important to make sure to support other women in the workplace and in the industry. There’s room for everyone at the top, and we should always encourage others and inspire them to be the best versions of themselves.
Was there someone - of any gender, colleague, or mentor - who was an example or direct influence that inspired you in your career? How?
One of my managers at a previous role was always a great mentor to me. He encouraged me to play up to my strengths and work on my weaknesses, paving a role for me to shine and be a strong and thoughtful leader. He gave me the confidence to fight for processes to change, new ideas to be tested, and to advocate for my team. I hope to continue to encourage those that I work with to have the same confidence in their careers.
