"I think equity is built into the values and behaviors of the company - there is respect and kindness between colleagues irrespective of level of seniority."
- Lisa Baldacchino
In what ways do we embrace equity at UpGuard?
I think equity is built into the values and behaviors of the company - there is respect and kindness between colleagues irrespective of level of seniority. Transparency of communication, a safe and supportive environment, and a culture of celebrating collaboration mean every employee can feel valued and heard.
What piece of advice could you give to help women navigate in this or other high-tech industries?
Probably this advice is not gender-specific but I would just say understand your strengths and what you bring to the table, and not be intimidated by what you don't know. There is so much evidence now that bringing a diverse skill set and perspective adds more value to a team. Also just to approach with a willingness to learn and be inquisitive, there are so many smart people in this industry willing to share their knowledge!
Was there someone - of any gender, colleague, or mentor - who was an example or direct influence that inspired you in your career? How?
I don't think there is any one specific person, but rather a group of people. I studied Engineering back when it was very male-dominated, and my female classmates were a great support network to me then, and seeing many of them move on to amazing careers in traditionally male-dominated workplaces and industries is an ongoing source of inspiration to me.
